What kind of hotels and foods you should expect while trekking in Nepal?

Most of the people obviously become super curious to know about the types of the logistics, they will stay while trekking in the Himalayas. Besides accommodations, another mandatory question is regarding the fooding to ensure the smooth, safe and enjoyable experience. Alike in EBC trek, in this route also there are some higher end lodges which might provide you private attached bathroom and hot showers and tea houses have the common rooms. The rooms are simple, clean and safe for the night stays. Most of the places you will stay will be the basic teahouses where there will be no attached bathrooms. And at the peak trekking season, you will have to share the rooms with the fellow trekkers area there are very limited number of hotels and rooms from Deurali (3,230m) to the Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m). Meanwhile, there are so many trekking destinations of Nepal where the trails are very rough and tough, in such a place, there are very less or no hotels, lodges or even the tea houses. While trekking around these places, you will have to manage your own accommodations, carry everything that is needed for camping trekking.

So, now let’s talk about the types of foods that you will be offered during your entire trek in the Himalayas. As most of the tea houses, hotels, and lodges are on family run establishment. The cuisines provide you both the local and the international tastes. You will also encounter the World’s highest cafes, bakeries and the pubs while trekking in the higher altitude treks like EBC where you can go for a cup of your favorite drink or a slice of your cake.

So, here are some of the most preferred foods one can expect while trekking here,

Authentic Nepali cuisines;

 

1.Dal Bhat Tarkari – This is a staple meal provided with rice, lentils, curry and pickle. It provides you a variety of nutrients that is required for the whole days of treks. There is a saying in Nepali that,

“Dal Bhat Tarkari power, 24 hours.”

2.Mo: Mo- The steamed dumping made of the flour with the fillings of meat, chicken, vegetable is another popular food consumed here in Nepal.

3.Thukpa – This noodle soup with the vegetables and meat added along with various spices added is one of the staple foods in the Himalayas.

4.Dheedo and gundruk – Dheedo is alike porridge made of maize or millet flour, whereas, gundruk is a form of fermented vegetables which is used as a pickle or a curry. Dheedo mixed with              gundruk gives an authentic Nepali flavour.

 

International Cuisines;

 

1.Pizza – You will be provided with the basic pizza with some of the vegetables topping.

2.Pasta – Pasta along with some local vegetables and sauce will be served in the table.

3.Pancakes- Normal or banana pancakes with the honey or butter is another dish you can have as your breakfast.

4.Porridge- You can also have a warm oatmeal with milk or honey and few fruits as your first meal of the day.

5.Chapati- Flat bread served with butter jam or any other curry can also be your meal while trekking in Nepal.

6.Omelettes- You can also intake a plain or mix veg omelette or masala omelette along with the toasts.

Beside this list, there are plenty of food items like bread items which are served in the breakfast, noodle items like noodle soup, thukpa, chowmein, or plain dal bhat tarkari in lunch or dinner time. Similarly, beverages like tea, coffee, hot lemon juice or hot chocolate can be served in your table by the highly experienced chefs. So, just make sure that you consume enough of the foods and drinks to keep yourself energetic during the treks.
