                     The Tsum Valley Trek is one of the hidden gems in the Manaslu region of Nepal which is known for its remote beauty and unique cultural experience. The Tsum valley lies in the Central Himalayan region which offers you the stunning mountain views. It is a part of the Manaslu region which was only opened to the trekkers in 2008. The Tsum Valley Trek can be done along with The Manaslu Circuit Trek by extending number of days or it can be done separately in itself. The Tsum Valley is located at the Nepal- Tibet border in the northern side of the Gorkha district. It is encircled by the mountains like Buddha Himal, Himal Chuli, Ganesh Himal, Sringi Himal and other peaks. This region is famous for grassland landscape which is influenced by Tibetan civilizations, arts, culture and traditions.

The Tsum Valley is an off- beaten trail with only few trekkers trekking in this region every year. So, if you are someone who is willing to skip the crowded trails like Everest Base Camp Trek or Annapurna Base Camp Trek, this trek is best suited for you. This trail is truly a peaceful and authentic to be trekked. ITINERARY

Day 1 Arrival in Kathmandu, Nepal and preparation for the trek.

Once you arrive at Kathmandu Nepal, you will be received by one of our company’s representatives at airport. We would like to warmly welcome you here in Nepal. Then after about 30 minutes of drive, you will be transferred to one of the decent hotels in Thamel.

And at evening, we will introduce you to our guides who will be guiding you The Tsum Valley Trek. Then briefing of the trip will be given by our guides. If you have any queries regarding the trip, we warmly welcome your questions. After dinner, we bid you with a good night. You must be very excited about the trip but rest and sleep are the must. Hope you will have nice night stay at Thamel.

Day 2 Drive from Kathmandu to Machhakhola

Today marks the beginning of The Tsum Valley Trek, the journey begins with the 160 km of drive from Kathmandu to Machhakhola. The journey will take about 7/8 hours depending upon the road condition. On this day long drive, we can witness traditional villages, rivers, waterfalls, terraced farmlands, lush forests and hills till we reach Machhakhola. We will pass by the villages like Khursang, Lububesi and then finally reach Machhakhola.

Day

Today is the first day of The Tsum Valley Trek. This section is a part of typical Manaslu Circuit Trek. Today’s trail follows the Budhi Gandaki River passing through many small traditional villages. We will transverse through the ascends and descends of the Hills. The walk from Machhakhola to Tatopani is very gentle and short. You can also take a quick dip into the hot spring at Tatopani. Then we will continue our walk with climbing the staircase then we will reach Dobhan followed by crossing over the Dobhan Khola. We will continue our climb from Dobhan to Duman till we reach Yaru Khola.

Once we reach Yaru Khola, we will walk along the bridge and cross Yaru Khola and Tharo Bharyang. Once we cross the west side of Budhi Gandaki, we will reach the Jagat village. At Jagat your permits will be checked.

Day 4 Trek from Jagat to Lokpa

The stretch from Jagat to Lokpa is transverse section of The Tsum Valley Trek characterized by varied terrain and scenic beauty. The trail ascends through a series of the stone steps passing through lush green forests and terraced fields. We will have to cross the bridge over the Budhi Gandaki River and continue our uphill walk till we reach Salleri.

After reaching Salleri, we will continue walking down to Sardibas, continuing to Ghatta Khola. We will cross the suspension bridge and climb up to reach Philim. Philim is a larger village with wheat and barley fields. This place is well known for the Japanese built schools. It offers beautiful views of the surrounding hills. We will cross by a police station. After Philim the trail becomes narrow and rugged towards Ekle Bhatti. We will pass through the forests and several small water streams. From Ekle Bhatti to Lokpa is the final section of today’s trek which involves the steep ascent. Lopka is less touristy place which offers more tranquil environment.

Day 5 Trek from Lokpa to Domje.

The trail from Lokpa to Domje is a part of the remote and scenic Manaslu region. Domje is also known as Deng. The trail begins with the steepy descend towards the Budhi Gandaki River. We will walk through the dense forests and cross many suspension bridges. The trail can be challenging so we have to be extra careful with our steps. The trail follows the ups and down passing by beautiful waterfalls and lush vegetation.

Once we reach Pewa, we can rest and refuel. Then we continue our walk enjoying the pine and rhododendron forests. We can witness the beautiful village with the stunning view of the Mountain Himalchuli standing at an elevation of 7,893m. Then we will walk down the hill towards the Lungwa Khola. After crossing the Lungwa Khola, comes Gumlung passing the forests. The trail continues along the river with gradual ascend. We can encounter the traditional villages and the unique culture of the Tibetan influenced communities. We will continue walking till we reach Domje.

Day 6 Trek from Domje to Nile.

The trail from Domje to Nile is the blend of cultural immersion and scenic landscapes. We will begin with a gradual ascent through the small settlements and forests. We will continue walking along Budhi Gandaki River passing through the village of Rana, Bhidi Phedi, Ghap, Namrung, Lho, Shyala, Sama Gaon and lastly Nile. This trail offers the beautiful mountain view of Ganesh Himal, Himchuli and Mount Manaslu itself. The final stretch from Sama Gaon to Nile is a steady ascent which involves passing through Tibetan villages that offers the stunning views of the valley. We can also visit the Ranchen Gompa which comes on the way on today’s trail.

Day 7 Trek from Nile to Mu Gompa.

The trek from Nile to Mu Gompa marks the highest elevation point of The Tsum Valley Trek. Today’s trail is comparatively short which involves a steady ascent. As we gain altitude, we lower our pace and walk slowly. The trail follows the valley and the Shiar Khola. We are almost close to the Tibetan border on this trek. As we continue our climb, we can see the trail becoming more barren and rugged which characterized the Himalayan landscapes. As we reach Mu Gompa, we can visit the highest monastery of this region which is the home to the monks and nuns. This place will for sure provide you a spiritual and serene atmosphere.

You can experience the breathtaking spectacular panoramic vistas of the surrounding peaks including the Tibetan Plateau. Since the area of Mu Gompa is less touristy and remote, you can enjoy the peaceful and raw experience.

Day 8 Trek from Nile to Chumling

The trail from Nile to Chumling is the part of The Tsum Valley Trek which is rich in Tibetan culture and remotely picturesque landscapes. We will be walking to the flat part of the route towards the South. After reaching the Samba falls, we will rest there and enjoy it’s beauty. We will cross Siyar Khola through the bridge several times. We have to pass through small settlements and terraced farmlands. The final stretch of today’s trek is a mix of descents and ascents. We will walk inside the lush forests to finally reach Chumling.

Day 9 Trek from Chumling to Salleri

On today’s trail, we will continue the journey through the Tsum valley. We will be descending down to the lower elevation while witnessing the beautiful scenery and cultural experiences. The trail descends towards the river crossing the suspension bridges. The path involves the ups and downs along with the lush forests and terraced farming. We will cross by the cultural villages and get to experience the traditional lifestyle and culture of villages. While enjoying the lush forests, terraced farmlands, river, valley and surrounding hills, we will reach Salleri.

Day 10 Trek from Salleri to Machhakhola

The trek from Salleri to Machhakhola is a transition from the remote areas of the Manaslu region to the accessible parts of the trek. From Salleri, we will trek back through Jagat, Tatopani, Khorlabesi to Machhakhola. At Jagat your permits will be checked. From Jagat we will descend through the series of ups and downs along the Budhi Gandaki River. We will pass through the forests, suspension bridges and many small villages.

Today we can experience the dry climate to the subtropical vegetation. At Tatopani, we can take a natural hot shower and soak all of our tired muscles. Then we will continue our walk to reach Machhakhola.

Day 11 Drive from Machhakhola to Kathmandu

Today is the last day of The Tsum Valley Trek. The initial part of the trek involves the rough, unpaved road which can be bumpy and slow- going. The road becomes better once we reach at Dhading Besi. The drive offers you the scenic views of rural Nepal while you reflect on your journey.

Once we reach back to Kathmandu, you will be transferred to the hotel where you have stayed earlier. You can take hot shower, relax, stroll around the alleys of Thamel and you can also buy souvenir to take back home if you want to. Beside that, there will be a farewell dinner in best restaurant.

Day 12 Final Departure from Kathmandu

The Tsum Valley, also known as the Hidden Valley is very remote and culturally rich region which is located in the Northern part of the Gorkha District in Nepal. This region being near to the Tibet border is greatly influenced by the Tibetan culture and civilization. This trek can be completed in 16- 20 days depending upon the pace of the trekkers and their itineraries. The maximum altitude gain of this trek is 3,700m at Mu Gompa. This trek is moderately challenging so, the trekker needs to be physically fit and mentally strong. On an average, you will have to walk 7/8 hours on everyday basis. As this region is a restricted area, you will need a special permit along with the Conservation Area permits.
